The Beach/ Water Activitys

the beach on a lake in Weston/the rock quarry in Rockport
5-30/31
afternoon
This is the final sign of spring it is ....... the beach/ water activities!! I choose the beach because the beaches are now open for swimming. Well they are open all year, but you can't go swimming when it is a frozen lake now can you? So when the lakes thaw and get warm enough for you to go swimming it shows that it is very late in spring or early in the summer. It also means frequent safety checks. They want to make sure that all the pointy rocks are out of the water. Before the summertime ,you can see this in the last picture on the string of pictures.
Unfortunately the lakes are the only thing warm enough to go swimming in if you like warm water. the ocean is still to cold to go swimming in. I went in the ocean on Memorial Day. the ocean made my feet freeze.there are more activities that you do in the summer like fishing (pic 2) boating and going on hikes. The only problem with hiking is there is poison ivy. This also grows in the spring and on Monday I had to point people away from a huge patch of poison ivy a deathtrap of the stuff I'd say or itching galore.that is the final sign of spring to me.
special thanks to Mr Williams for opening my eyes to S.O.S (signs of spring NOT save our souls).

11th sign of spring: dew not frost

5/23/10
my backyard
9:50 a.m

I found out awhile ago that it was not frost on the grass but dew. I have had no time to have this as a sign of spring. I knew that that dew would be around until this fall. so I thought that it would be one of my last ones.why does dew form I think that. For dew to form, air must be cooled to its condensation point. If the air does not move then it will form fog. the website I got this from is dew.

this is a sign of spring to me because the the frost has thawed and made it so that the water droplets make beautiful arrangements on everything.the dew just flies about touching everything. making it wet and sparkling. it makes it so that the ground is proven to be warmer then the freezing point. so the ground is warmer than the air is at home. that is why the dew drops are a beautiful work of art and a sign of spring too.

this sign of spring to me because we are finally going through the final stages of the lilac process. this flower blooms in late spring. that means that the lilacs bloom closer to summer. We all wait for winter to be over and for our lilacs to bloom. Lilacs are a shrub. They can look really good it taken care of the right way. want to know more about how to care for the lilac. How about just learning about the lilac They can be used to provide privacy from neighboring properties. with a nice look on them. knowledge of how to replenish the old rotting wood with new shoots, the shrubs will last a lifetime.

It blooms closer to Mothers day so my moms around the continent of north America can be the first to get and enjoy the fully bloomed lilac. Also one of my favorite flowers is the lilac. she likes this because it smells nice. She also likes the way that they look. they also don't need a lot of maintenance to grow. they can be used to do a verity of things. fom wanting privacy from neighbors to wanting some shade or just looking for something to brighten up your yard

Robins Eggs

May 1, 2010
My backyard
1:00PM

This is the nest that was in my neighbor's yard it was laid by a bunch of Robins and they came and laid about four eggs. They had their nest in a bush. It fell out of the tree/bush twice. The birds had one dud egg. This is an egg that will never hatch. It attracts other birds and predators that will eat the real eggs.
It takes 11 to 16 days to have the eggs hatch. The female robin can have up to three broods at a time. the young have a spotted underparts. The robin stamps to make the earth worms betray their presence. The adult robins stuff their bill with grubs and worms when their young are around and hungry.

Mowing my backyard is not a very fun task but it is necessary to do. This is a sign of spring to me because when the lawn grows the sun shows. Also when the lawn needs mowing you have to keep mowing every week. The grass is growing like a weed because of all the rain and then having sun for awhile. That is why this is a sign of spring to me.
The lawn mower you see is about 10 years old. I have trouble starting it because it has a strong pullback when you are trying to start it up. My mom thinks that it bites when the ripcord snaps back into the place it has to start in. I love only one thing about mowing the lawn. That is the smell of the freshly cut grass. That is why the lawnmower is a pain and is not very helpful with starting itself.

Although their are a lot of flowers out their are little pests that come out and choke your plants. They are called weeds. They are little pests because they kill your plants. Most people wonder why the weeds were created. I think that they are here because it will keep the other little pests called bugs. This is a sign of spring because these plants only sping up in spring and summer.
Some eat your plants while others work to protect them. Like aphids for example. They will eat the plants leaves and make them wither and die.On the other hand though the bugs that help us are ladybugs, butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds. They help pollinate flowers and make them bloom faster. They also help make the flowers reproduce the seeds for next year. These are a

The stages of daisy

My Backyard
Saturday Morning
3 April 2010
We came upon the daisy when we went out a long time ago. Now we have stumbled upon it again. We found this daisy along with others when we went out in search of things the 3rd or 4Th week we did this appreciation of spring. It will look pretty later I thought and took a picture of it the first time. It is very pretty now as you can see from the pictures (above).
This is an important flower to the bee family. It is important because bees can pollinate it easily because it is flat and open. So this helps them make honey. Pollination helps flowers survive and get their seeds back so that they come back every year. They also say that the bees survive the cold winter when they store their honey becomes thier food for winter. This is why the daisy is a sign of spring to me.

Flowers: how it happens

The flower forms by going through many different stages. The flowers start out as stems or branches. Then the flowers start to bud. After the buds form and get bigger they will open up to be flowers. In the pictures above I have shown a timeline of the Forsythia's life from branch to flower. Soon the flowers will be popping up very soon.

The Forsythia bushes are a sign because I think everyone knows that flowers are a beaken that flares when spring is finally here. The best part about the Forsythia bush is that it is the first bush youwill see blooming in the spring. Everywhere you look, you will see big bushes of happy yellow flowers. These blooms will last for about one to two weeks. Once they pass other bushes and tress will bloom and take their place.

This is a verity of flowers that have started to flourish. They are in my yard to the right and have started to spread out all over the place! Soon this bud from a lilac will grow into leaf. Maybe it will grow and bloom in early May. The seedum will start to bush. Then in late August it will bloom.
The cone flower may not look like much else but a bunch of leaves. It will grow to be a beautiful purple flower in the summer like as early June. The crocus is going to bloom SOON like early April. It is one of the first to bloom. At times it will push through the snow if the ground is thawed.

Daffodil bulb emerging

22 Feb 2010
My Backyard
Evening

This is a picture of a daffodil that my mom planted last October 2009. They were covered with snow until this little thaw before the snow storms. They went though the winter sleeping like the animals. As you can see above we have not cleaned the garden yet. Some other things are starting to grow in my backyard. We are on the hunt for many signs of spring.

The bulbs went through a dormant stage for the winter. This is when the ground is frozen. Now that the days are longer and the sun is now warmer the bulbs awaken to there active state. Therefore the roots grow and leaves sprout. We will follow this bud until it grows into the flower it is meant to be.

This is a sign of spring because it is the first bud that you see is important to me. It was a mild day. Warm on the face. Sunny and very enjoyable. No rain has fallen on the past few days. These are some signs that are slowly becoming visible.
